Gibeon Meteorite

The meteorite we use has hit the ground near the namibian town, Gibeon (this is where the name came from). This event had happened long before human history has begun and the pieces scattered on a 170x70 miles wide area. The mineable amount is calculated to be around 26 tons (57300 pounds). The local natives were maufacturing weapons and other tools from it throughout the ancient centuries.

Interesting fact to know about the material itself is that it is a not too hard alloy of four metals: iron, nickel, cobalt and phosphor. On the surface of it we can make these extraordinary and unique patterns appear (as you can see on the pictures) with a special acidic method. The pattern is called Windmanstätten. However the meteorite can cause problems to those allergic to nickel, this is an important fact to notice!

Gibeon meteorite is a quite sensitive kind of materials, therefore it can easily corrode if you not take care enough for your ring. To help you avoid any problems, we collected the noteable steps and rules of wearing a meteorite jewelry:

• You can calmly wash your hands or have a bath with it, because after that you dry your hand normally so you dry the ring too, but please don't keep it underwater for longer time and NEVER store it near any tap or water source and if possible neither in the bathroom.
• It is very rare, but it can appear to be a problem: your sweat can react with the meteorite if it contains some chemicals, it can deform the surface pattern of the meteoirte or corrode it a bit.
• Please make sure that your ring never gets in touch with any chemicals, not even with the usual detergent or any kind.
